The Summer Reading Program Has Begun!
Welcome to Make A Splash - Read! The Summer Library Program for 2010! We have already started signing up participants, both at the libraries and on the website, and we want you to participate too! It's really easy: keep track of all the time you spend reading or being read to, and kids from babies to 8th graders will get Library Loot for each hour. Spend your loot at your favorite Library Branch, enter the raffles, and go to the programs all summer. Make a Splash with us this summer!
Getting Ready for Summer
The Summer Reading Program - "Make a Splash - Read!" starts at the Door County Library this Tuesday June 1st! Come sign up at the Library or on our website starting next week! Every child from babies all the way through 8th graders get to keep track of all the time they spend reading or being read to (the big ones reading to the little ones earns credit for both!). Every hour of time this summer earns "Library Loot" to spend on prizes at the Library. If you happen to be in the Sturgeon Bay Library, you can even see the fantastic decorations that Mrs Herbst's Class at the Sturgeon Bay Highschool did for us. This has simply got to be seen to be believed! Come see us and Make a Splash this summer!
National Library Week - Culvers and Pictures and You
Every year the folks at Culvers help us celebrate National Library Week (April 11th-17th) by making us a really sweet deal: every child 11 years old or younger who comes in to the library, takes one of the drawing sheets, draws us a picture about their favorite book (I love color!) and turns it in to us will get a coupon to go to Culvers for a scoop of frozen custard! Pictures = Frozen Custard! All eight branches of the library are participating, so get over to your favorite branch and pick up a drawing sheet. The last day to participate is Friday April 30th. Happy National Library Week!
PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest
Let loose your inner writer/illustrator! If you are in Kindergarten - 3rd grade, you could enter the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest! Between January 27th and March 26th you can enter the contest to show off your creativity and maybe even win fabulous prizes. Write and illustrate your own original story to share! Look here for the entry form, contest rules and writers guide . Entries go first to Wisconsin Public Television and then on to the Nationals!
Milwaukee Bucks Read to Achieve Library Reading Challenge in January
Libraries in Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay are participating in the Milwaukee Bucks annual Read to Achieve Program for kids in 3rd to 10th grade. The Reading Challenge runs from January 2nd to February 13th 2010.
This program is all about the pages read; at 125, 250, 375 and 500 pages read, kids earn a sticker on their reading record, which you get when you sign up at the library. At 500 pages read, kids recieve an order form for a free ticket for one child (adults must buy a ticket at a reduced price for each free child ticket). The tickets are good for one of two Milwaukee Bucks home games in March.
Kids who choose to read 750 pages or more get an "overtime sticker" and are entered into raffles for an autographed basketball, or participation in the Halftime High Five Tunnel, Kourtside Kids, or Recognition On-Court.
Disney on Ice - Princess Classics Reading Promotion
This January several of the Library branches are participating in the Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics reading program.
Kids who read (or are read to) 5 books before February 5th can bring in their reading log (supplied by the Library) that has been signed by either a Teacher or Librarian, to Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Sister Bay or Sturgeon Bay branches where we will give you a voucher to attend Princess Classics at the Resch Center in Green Bay on either February 10th or 11th. The vouchers can be redeemed for tickets when parents get their tickets.
Detailed instructions are available at the Library when you pick up your reading logs.
