Wisconsin NewspapersBadgerlink is a wonderful resource available to all residents of the state through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. This website provides access to high quality information including encyclopedias, magazines, medical and business journals, census records and more.

The Wisconsin Newspapers Digital Research Site

The site provides access to over 200 daily and weekly Wisconsin newspapers, starting in 2005 to the present, with an embargo delay of 60 days. And that includes the Door County Advocate. Each newpaper addition can be viewed as a searchable PDF file.

New Poet Laureate

On July 1, 2010, the Library of Congress announced the name of the new Poet Laureate. W.S. Merwin is the 17th recipient of the title and will serve from 2010 to 2011.  Many books of his poetry are available through the library catalog:

June is Dairy Month

The Master Cheesemakers of WisconsinWisconsin, also known as "America's Dairyland," is the source of some of the best cheeses in the country. The Door County Library has a number of books on the history and background of Wisconsin's cheese production, along with a number of cheese and dairy cookbooks.

Best Breakfast in the Country

The talk of Door County this week was the Best Breakfast Challenge on ABC's Good Morning America program. One of the four finalist was Door County's White Gull Inn in Fish Creek.
 
Sunday morning, May 16, the winner was announced:

Everybody's talking about Food, Inc.

At the recent Sustainability Fair at Crossroads in Sturgeon Bay, a number of people who stopped by the Door County Library table asked about the award-winning film, Food, Inc. This film seems to have really caught the public's eye. Both the book and the DVD are available from the library through the InfoSoup.org catalog, but for those who can't wait (there are over 150 reserves for the DVD!), watch the film streaming online at the PBS website right now:
